Mumbai : A gambling den in Sion was raided by the police on Thursday, leading to the arrest of 75 people and Rs 1 lakh cash being seized.

The raid, led by senior police inspector Suhas Garud of Wadala TT police station, busted the illegal gambling den in Pratiksha Nagar on Thursday morning. “Around 3.30 am on Thursday, we caught people engaging in illegal gambling activities on the terrace of building number T6,” he said.

The raid, which is being touted as one of the biggest gambling busts of this year, has led to the arrest of 75 people. “We have been able to recover Rs 1,61,000 cash and 72 mobile phones from those arrested,” he said. The gambling was reportedly in progress since the last four days.

The police officials, who had previously raided few other rackets in the area, were keeping a lookout for such other incidents. “We had raided three other gambling rackets albeit smaller ones in the same area. After that, we were routinely checking the buildings and clubs to keep a check on such activities,” he said

Those arrested have been booked under Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act under Sections 4A and 5B and various other sections.
