Mumbai : The Western and Central Railway have cancelled the mega block of their suburban services on Sunday for convenience of lakhs of devotees who would travel to immersion points to catch a glimpse of Ganpati idols on the last day of the festival. Along with that, the Western Railway has decided to run special trains.
The special trains will halt at all stations.
Both, Western Railway and Central Railway declared the decision via the micro-blogging site Twitter. The CR tweeted, “There will be no Mega Block on 27 September on @Central_Railway suburban sections for the benefit of devotees of Ganesh Festival. WR’s official twitter handle stated, “No Day Block on WR suburban in Mumbai on Sunday September 27, and Night Block at Bandra (T) Main and Yard.”
Mega-block is a weekly practice carried out by both suburban railway services for track maintenance and to get over the wear and tear and fatigue of the rails. During the block, train services are affected for a specified period.
