Navi Mumbai: Two Young Women Killed On Palm Beach Road As Speeding Skoda Collides With Scooter; CCTV Footage Surfaces

“The driver of the Skoda car fled the scene after the accident. We have registered the case against the Skoda driver and we are scanning through the cctv footages to identify the registration number of the car and the owner,” senior police inspector Ajay Shinde from APMC police station said.

Two young girls succumbed to an accident on Palm Beach road, early on Sunday after a speeding Skoda car collided with the scooter they were riding on. The girls identified as Sanskruti Khokale (22), who lived in Kamothe Sector-18, and her friend Anjali Sudhakar Pandey (19), who lived in Bonkode village at Koparkhairane, were on their way home after finishing the night shift at a Turbhe MIDC based BPO. Both Khokale and Pandey were colleagues at the same office- Expert Source- and worked as telecallers in a US based process from 8pm to 6.30 am.

“They often went together after their shift and Khokale used to drop Pandey first to her house at Bonkode and then proceed to her residence at Kamothe. The two wheeler belonged to Khokale. The car who hit them, ran from the spot. We want justice for both of them and the person should be nabbed soon,” Tanmay Gadhavi, colleague and friend of both the deceased, said. Khokale had Yamaha Fascino scooter for commuting to work. She would travel daily from Kamothe to her workplace. After finishing work in the morning, she would drop Pandey.

On Sunday morning, after they both logged off from the work at around 6.30 am, they headed towards home. Khokale had taken the service road near Kopra Bridge, and had was getting onto the Palm Beach road to later take a right towards Bonkode village, when a speeding Skoda car coming from the Aranja Circle, Vashi side towards Thane crashed into their scooter. Both women were seriously injured in the accident. They were rushed to the municipal hospital, but before reaching there, Khokale succumbed to her injuries. In the course of the treatment, Pandey succumbed to her injuries.

Pandey stayed with her parents and two elder sisters. Her mother is a house wife and father runs a shop. While Khokale stayed with her parents and a younger brother and an elder sister. Her mother is a house wife and father works as a watchman.

The unidentified accused has been booked under the sections 281, 125 (a), 125 (b) and 106 of the BNS and sections 184 and 134 of the Motor Vehicle Act for reckless, rash and negligent driving that caused death.
