Navi Mumbai: Turbhe police have booked two men for performing a dangerous stunt involving a moving auto rickshaw. The incident occurred on the service road in Khairane MIDC, near the fire brigade off Thane-Belapur Road, around 12:30 am on Saturday.

According to Senior Inspector Abasaheb Patil of Turbhe police station, the accused have been identified as Shamshud Ahmed (27), a mechanic, and Akshay Dhotre (26), an auto rickshaw driver. Ahmed was seen sitting atop a moving auto rickshaw without a driver, while Dhotre recorded a reel of the stunt. The reel was later posted on Instagram, which brought the matter to the attention of the authorities, as reported by The Times Of India.

The video that surfaced online clearly shows one of the men performing a reckless stunt while seated on the roof of a moving auto rickshaw, with no driver in control. Such dangerous behavior, carried out on a public road and shared on social media for attention.

Using the auto rickshaw’s registration number, police traced and detained the duo. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash or negligent driving on a public way, acts endangering human life or personal safety, and abetment. Additionally, they have been charged under the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving. A notice under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita has also been served.

Later in the video, both accused can be seen apologizing for their actions, stating that they would not repeat such behavior in the future. They also urged others not to attempt similar stunts, emphasizing the serious legal consequences such acts can invite.

Additionally, they appealed to citizens not to create or share videos of dangerous stunts, underscoring the responsibility of the public in discouraging such content from gaining traction online.
