Mumbai: The BMC’s unscheduled water-cut has added to the injury, as the strike by BEST buses has already been hitting Mumbaikars hard. The civic body did not deem it necessary to inform the residents of the cut in advance. The unscheduled water-cut in parts of Mumbai comes as a shocker for residents as they did not get the wate they receive regularly, causing unwarranted inconvenience. “Today entire Girgaon did not get water. Shameless #BMC did not even have the courtesy to circulate information/notice. For barely 15 mins at 6.45am they planned. Tankers made money, people suffered.
Plumbers got panic calls,” a resident tweeted. Atmaram, a Girgaum plumber, said he received innumerable calls of dysfunctional motor pumps the entire day. “The tense residents thought there was something wrong with their motor pumps or pipelines,” he added. The residents were enraged over the lackadaisical attitude of the civic agency. Another resident Pankaj Thakkar said when he called at the D ward office, he was informed of the water-cut. “When I asked if any notice was sent, the onduty official said ‘no’. But they can try starting pumps at 6.45am.”
Tankers made a killing on Sunday as the residents had to call on water vans to fulfil their need. “Why did the BMC fail to inform the residents,” questioned residents. Suraj Sharma, a Parel resident, said there has been a water crisis for the last 10 days. They made a complaint at the F-south ward office, but to no avail. “Earlier, we thought the water pressure was low. I asked the plumber to check if there is any problem in the supply pipeline, but when checked, there was no problem. Later,
we realised we are getting less water,” said Sharma. Another incident was reported at the Unnat Nagar Cooperative Housing Society, Goregaon, where the residents have been receiving contaminated water for the last six days. “We wrote a complaint letter to the Hydraulic dept about the supply of the contaminated water to our societies. It’s been more than eight days but the civic officials has not even initiated any action,” added Yogesh Shahir, secretary. The concerned civic officer refused comments.
