Mumbai: The Mumbai monorail services were again disrupted on Monday for an hour at 10 am. This time, the tyres got punctured at Chembur station.
Dilip Kawatkar, spokesperson for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said the passengers were evacuated safely.
“After safely evacuating the passengers from the train at Chembur, the faulty rake was taken to the depot at Wadala for repairs. The services resumed after an hour,” he added.
Currently, the monorail operations are running on only two rakes instead of five. One is on stand-by and two rakes were pulled back recently due the recurring technical problems, said the officials.
The monorail services were expected to help commuters residing in the low-lying areas, espcially during the monsoon. However, it is not possible due to insufficient number of rakes.
Commtuers took to social media to spread the word. “One train came at chembur at 9.40 departs at 10.30??? Seriously??? Another After 1 Hour!!! Stuck in RST 10 without making any sense .
Is this the way to show trains go full on weekdays??? Tells u the story! @monorail_mumbai @rarajeev,” said Charan. Another added, “Should be completely dismantled and the pillars should make way for the roads.”
