Mumbai: Shattered by wife’s suicide, man hangs self in Sion hours later

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a couple killed themselves on Wednesday, whose body was discovered hours later. The couple, Vivek (30) and Rashika (26) Kamble, residents of Agarwada area in Sion (E). The Sion Police have registered two Accidental Death Reports (ADR) in the matter and have found no suicide note from the spot.

The couple, who had a four-year-old son, used to stay in a civic building in Sion (E). According to police, late on Tuesday night, Vivek found his wife Rashika lying dead after consuming poison, which shattered him.

Unable to recover from the shock, hours later when their son was asleep, Vivek hanged himself from a ceiling fan and ended his life. When their son got up in the morning, he found both his parents lying unconscious and cried himself to sleep.

Police said, hours later, when Vivek’s brother, Rajesh knocked the door repeatedly while nobody answered, he sought the neighbours’ help and broke the door open. Rajesh as well as the neighbours were shocked to find Vivek hanging from the ceiling fan and Rashika lying dead near the bed.

Vivek and Rashika were rushed to the civic-run Sion Hospital, where they were declared dead before admission. Sion police have registered an ADR in the matter and are investigating the case. Police have found no suicide note from the spot and will be questioning the family and neighbours to ascertain the reason behind their drastic step.
