Following the decision of cancellation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class 12 examinations for this year due to the Covid-19 situation, affiliated schools are now awaiting the assessment policy to formulate results.
Francis Joseph, the co-founder of School Leaders Network (SLN), said, "My personal opinion as an educator for the Union Ministry of Education is to issue recommendations to States about the conduct of Grade 12 offline board exams, based on the decision taken for CBSE Class 12 exams. CBSE schools are located across different states and countries and it is important to avoid disparity."
Parveen Shaikh, principal of the Somaiya School, Vidya Vihar, said, "All the stakeholders were waiting for the official announcement. Since the stakes are high as far as Grade 12 exams are concerned, the question would be how will marks be calculated and how would be guided in applying for professional colleges. A clear guideline from the CBSE, at the earliest, would be helpful to reduce anxiety amongst students and parents."
Charu Wahi, principal of Nirmal Bhartia School, New Delhi said, "The next step is equally critical and crucial in terms of deciding the process and criteria based on which the performance of students will be gauged. This should be done keeping in mind that many of them make that extra effort during the last mile and hence, should be given due advantage."
Sulekha Sharma, a teacher from Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida, said, "The decision of examination cancellation puts an end to the impending wait but might also create an environment of vagueness. Class 12 results are the basis of a student’s future career decision and are seen as a qualifying criterion by numerous universities. Detailed clarity on the scheme of marking and result in creation will help students and teachers understand how the mechanics would play out. These details will also help students make an appropriate career decision and choose their future path."
