The south-west monsoon arrived in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Wednesday, the IMD announced and the heavy rains lashed the city and suburbs since early morning, causing water-logging at many places and disrupting local train services as expected.

It also led to traffic diversions and road closures due to waterlogging in various parts of the city. Some of the key roads that were worst affected by the rains include the Western Express Highway (WEH), Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and the Eastern Freeway.

Local train services from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to neighbouring Thane and Vashi in Navi Mumbai were suspended due to water-logging on some railway tracks, officials said. There was inundation at several places in the city, including on tracks near Sion and Chunabhatti stations on the Central Railway (CR) route.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is not getting support from Railways. "We are not getting support from the Railways as expected on the issue of clearing railway tracks following rainfall," she told news agency ANI.

Now, the Central Railway has refuted Pednekar's claim. "Railways is committed to work in close co-ordination with MCGM for running the train services for our esteemed passengers. And hence, we refute the statement given by Hon'ble Mayor, Mumbai," read a tweet from the official Twitter handle of Central Railway.

Meanwhile, the BEST buses also diverted their routes due to waterlogging. The diversions of the bus routes are as follows-- 501,502,504,505 via Mankhurd bridge, route 7,10,25 via Sion main road, route 181 curtailed at Antop Hill Bus Station and route 5,6,7,8,21,27 via Ruia College, Wadala bridge and Antop Hill, Wadala bridge, informed the official Twitter handle of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
