Mumbai: A retired peon of the BMC was caught red-handed, stealing files from the BMC office in Parel. Residents caught him in the act on Monday afternoon and called police. The peon would allegedly smuggle the files, take it to civic officials ‘for tampering’ and put them back in the BMC office.
For this, he received a commission from the black-listed builders, claimed the residents who caught him. “We caught him red-handed, while he was coming out of the BMC office, Parel, on Monday afternoon,” said a resident. “The FIR will be registered when the DMC, Zone II, confirms the authenticity of the file,” said an officer from the Bhoiwada police station. “We have informed the vigilance team and they are looking into the it,” said a civic official familiar with the matter.
