Mumbai: Panic spread in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area on Friday after three cartridges were discovered in a roadside gutter by local ragpickers. Upon receiving the alert, both local police and the Mumbai Crime Branch rushed to the spot and seized the ammunition.

According to police officials, the cartridges were found to be expired and non-functional. An officer stated that the cartridges were manufactured around 1995–96, and such ammunition typically has a shelf life of 10 years, after which it becomes unfit for use.

Police conducted a panchnama at the scene and have sent the cartridges for forensic analysis. Preliminary investigations suggest that the bullets may have originated from scrap material, possibly dumped in the gutter unintentionally. Authorities are now probing how the ammunition ended up at the site, who it may have belonged to, and whether there are any broader security implications. The Mankhurd police have registered the information and are continuing their inquiry.
