Mumbai: The Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a case of criminal breach of trust and cheating involving the alleged misappropriation of ₹11.52 crore from the prestigious Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust in Bandra.
According to sources, the EOW has registered an FIR under Sections 406, 420, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The FIR was transferred from the Bandra Police Station.
The complaint was filed by Prashant Kishor Mehta (53), a trustee of the trust and a resident of Gamdevi. He assumed charge as a trustee on December 15, 2023. This is the third FIR registered in connection with the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust.
According to the FIR, the accused—Rashmi Mehta, Niket Mehta, Sushil Mehta, Bhavin Mehta, Chetan Mehta, and Suresh Motwani, among others—allegedly colluded to siphon off funds between August 2001 and June 2003.

Investigations revealed that during the said period, the accused invested ₹16.52 crore of the trust’s money into Mayfair Realtors Pvt. Ltd. and Vesta India Ltd., allegedly without following proper procedures or recording the transactions. Of the total investment, ₹11.52 crore was reportedly transacted in cash and never reflected in the trust's official accounts, causing a major financial loss.
The EOW has launched a probe into the matter and is expected to summon the accused for questioning in the coming days.
