Mumbai: In line with the Western Railway’s ‘Swachh Rail–Swachh Bharat’ initiative, a four-coach EMU rake has been modified in-house as a ‘Muck Special Train’ by the WR EMU workshop at Mahalaxmi. For the purpose, a 25 years old EMU rake has been used.
Ravinder Bhakar, CPRO, WR, said a four-coach EMU rake, which includes two driving trailer coaches and two motor coaches, has been modified in-house by the EMU workshop, Mahalaxmi, as per the requirement of an engineering department.
The odifications include removal of seats and partitions. The rake has been beautifully and aesthetically readied with cleanliness slogans and images to spread the message of ‘Swachh Rail–Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and enable commuters to easily distinguish this rake from others.
Bhakar stated the general manager, AK Gupta, inspected the modified rake thoroughly and suggested furtgher effective modifications before handing over the rake to the engineering department for use. “The rake will help WR clear the garbage dumped along the tracks. The garbage not only defaces the railways but also clogs the drains, leading to water-logging during the monsoon.
It will save time for the cleaning teams as it won’t be needed to reverse the locomotive on either end. The EMU Muck Special train may easily be operated in any direction through motor coaches on both ends to change the direction,” added Bhakar. The WR initiative will go a long way to keep the tracks clean. It will also help the WR run the trains effectively and efficiently.
