On Wednesday, a 33-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment and prison term till death. The Kalyan sessions court sentenced the man to life imprisonment for killing and raping a 19-year-old woman in September 2013.
According to the Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Ashok Baban Mukne (33). The incident took place on September 5, 2013, when the 19-year-old victim was on her way home from college. The accused spotted her on the isolated street. The accused was in inebriated state, who then accosted the girl and tried to force himself on her. The girl managed to free herself and fled from the spot, but the accused followed her and caught her again.
Then, the accused put a bag over her mouth to stifle her cries, after which the girl died of suffocation. Ashok Mukne then dragged her to a secluded spot, raped her and fled. After the 19-year-old did not return home, her family started searching for her. The family on the next day was informed by the police that they found the girl’s body. The cops then registered a case of murder and rape. The cops noticed that the victim’s phone was missing, after which they managed to track down Mukne, who was trying to sell the cell phone. Cops arrested Ashok Mukne on September 10, 2013.
