Mumbai: City reports less than 1,000 cases for fifth straight day

Mumbai reported less than 1,000 for the fifth day in a row, with 973 new cases and 24 covid fatalities being reported on Friday, taking the total count to 7,09,941 with 14,989 deaths so far. Meanwhile, the doubling rate has increased to 515 days, while the weekly growth rate has dropped to 0.13 per cent.

Maharashtra COVID-19 cases 

There was a slight drop in the daily Covid-19 cases on Friday, with 14,152 new infections and 289 Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, pushing its tally to 58,05,565, with 98,771 fatalities till now. Meanwhile, the recovery rate has touched 95 per cent, with 55,07,058 patients having recovered since the pandemic outbreak.

“Of the 289 deaths reported today, 193 occurred in the last 48 hours and 96 in the last week. As 386 deaths that have occurred before the period of one week in various districts and corporations, have been updated on Covid portal today and in the reconciliation process of deaths up to 31 May 2021, there is increase of 702 deaths in the state ,there is an increase of 1088 deaths in the state's progressive death tally,” said a senior health official.

Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad restrictions to be eased: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar

The coronavirus positivity rates of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad civic areas were on the decline and a decision has been taken to offer some relaxation in restrictions, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Friday.

He was speaking to reporters after chairing a review meeting of the COVID-19 situation in the district.

"The positivity rate in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad is 5 per cent and less than 5 per cent respectively. So a decision was taken in today's meeting to offer some relaxation in restrictions in these areas. However, in rural areas of the district, the rate is 12-13 per cent," Pawar said.

Maha: TV actor Pearl Puri held for allegedly raping girl

Police have arrested TV actor Pearl Puri from Mumbai for allegedly raping a girl, an official said on Saturday.

The Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police arrested him on Friday night with the help of the personnel of Amboli police station, he said.

Maha Guv plants sapling in memory of Sir Anerood Jugnauth

Paying a unique homage to an ex-foreign head of state and government, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari planted a sapling in memory of the former President and Prime Minister of Mauritius, the Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth, an official said here on Saturday.

The sapling was planted outside the gubernatorial residence in the Raj Bhavan complex - where the National Tricolour flutters at half-mast in memory of the departed Mauritian leader - who passed away on Thursday in Mauritius, aged 91.

Barring Mumbai, Pune, half of Maha to open up from Monday

After nearly two months of strict lockdown-type restrictions, the Maharashtra government has decided to cautiously initiate a five-phased Unlock 2.0 from Monday (June 7), starting with 18 of the state's 36 districts, officials said here on Saturday.

In the first phase, it will take effect in: Aurangabad, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Dhule, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Jalgaon, Jalna, Latur, Nagpur, Nanded, Nashik, Parbhani, Thane, Washim, Wardha and Yavatmal districts.
