6 labourers injured as welcome arch collapses in Belapur

Six labourers were injured after a welcome arch being installed in Belapur in Navi Mumbai fell on Sunday evening, police said.

An NRI police station official said they have been admitted in a nearby hospital and their condition was stable.

"The incident took place at 7pm. The work of clearing the debris is underway,"he added

Teenage boy held for raping seven-year-old girl

An 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old daughter of his neighbour in Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

The accused had also threatened family members of the victim against approaching the police, an official said.

The alleged incident occurred on the June 24 night in Chinchpada area of Rabale after the accused asked the girl to accompany him to a marriage function. He took her to an isolated godown and sexually assaulted her, the official said.

2 held for killing man in abandoned structure

Two people have been arrested for allegedly killing a man in an abandoned structure that was formerly a hotel in Vile Parle in Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

Jigar Chavda was killed by ragpickers Jamil Ansari and Ritesh Maru after they had a fight inside the structure over a mobile phone of the victim, an official said.

Targeting of individuals by central agencies harmful for federal structure: Raut

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said the deliberate targeting of leaders in the ruling MVA alliance in Maharashtra by central agencies was harmful for the country's federal structure.

Raut was responding to a query by reporters on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in a money laundering case.

Deshmukh was asked to depose before the investigating officer at the ED's office in Mumbai on Saturday in the money laundering case related to an alleged multi-crore bribery-cum-extortion racket, that led to his resignation from the post of home minister in April.

Raids on 2 Nashik villas, 22 held, drugs seized

Two villas in Nashik in Maharashtra were raided in the early hours of Sunday and 22 people, including some connected to the entertainment industry, were held, while drugs and hookah were seized, police said.

The raids were conducted on two villas in Igatpuri, some 120 kilometres from here, on the basis of a tip off, Nashik Rural Superintendent of Police Sachin Patil told PTI.

"We have held 12 women and 10 men in the raids. One of the women is a Bigg Boss contestant, while some others are connected to the film industry. They have all been sent for medical examination. We are also looking for people who assisted in organising this get together, where many came in high end cars," he said.
