Mumbai: A three-year-old girl child was rescued 10 days after she was kidnapped from Bandra (E) by a woman on April 1. According to the police, the accused kidnapper, Mira Kale (25), a slum-dweller, had been arrested. Kale had committed the kidnapping to give the victim to her issueless sister-in-law. Police zeroed in on Kale after scrutinising over 200 CCTV footages.
The police said the victim lived on the streets with her family at Nirmal Nagar. was reported missing from the evening of April 1. The parents approached police to lodge a case. The police swung into action and constituted various teams to locate the missing toddler.
The teams checked CCTV footages of Bandra (E) area as well all the major railway stations. “During the CCTV video scanning, a woman was spotted with the toddler near Marine Lines railway station. We immediately shared the woman’s photograph with the local police, who traced Kale at a footpath near Mantralaya bus depot.
The girl was rescued and the culprit was arrested,” said a police official. Investigation revealed that Kale had kidnapped the victim for her issueless sister-in-law. Kale was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to kidnapping (section 363).
