Artist Chintan Upadhyay, an accused in the 2015 murder of his estranged wife and artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambani, has sought temporary bail on the grounds of COVID-19 pandemic. His co-accused Pradeep Rajbhar has also sought the same relief.

The duo have sent letters from Thane prison, which the Dindoshi sessions court conducting the trial received on Tuesday. The court has directed Special Public Prosecutor Vaibhav Bagade to file a response to the applications. In March, Chintan Upadhyay had approached the apex court through a Special Leave Petition challenging the denial of bail to him by the Bombay High Court. The petition is pending before the top court.
