Mumbai: Obaid Radiowala, the alleged aide of gangster Ravi Pujari and a key accused in the 2014 firings on film-makers Mahesh Bhatt and Karim Morani, was once again remanded in police custody for a day, after the police sought that he be tried under the Mahatashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
The Crime Branch had earlier produced Radiowala in a special MCOCA court on Wednesday, which said that he be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court as the MCOCA charges in the case against him had already been dropped. Accordingly, when Radiowala was produced before the court on Thursday, where the prosecution argued that it was necessary to try him under the MCOCA once again
“The Metropolitan Magistrate’s court subsequently remanded Mr Radiowala to police custody for a day, and he will be produced in front of the special MCOCA court once again on Friday,” advocate Nazneen Khatri, who is representing Mr Radiowala, said.
Radiowala was declared a wanted accused in the 2014 plot to kill a Mumbai based filmmaker, and the hit was allegedly sanctioned by Pujari. However, the Crime Branch arrested 13 accused, including Radiowala’s brother, before the plan could reach fruition.
