Mumbai: 32-year-old specially-abled youth commits suicide by setting himself ablaze

Mumbai: A 32-year-old specially-abled youth committed suicide by pouring and setting himself ablaze early on Wednesday. Seeing him burn, family and locals doused the fire and rushed him to Kasturba Gandhi Hospital at Jacob Circle, but he succumbed. The deceased has been identified as Jimmy Cyril Gracious, a Santacruz (E) resident.

As soon as Kherwadi police learnt of the incident, they reached the hospital and recorded Jimmy’s statement. Kherwadi police said, “Jimmy is known to be mentally unstable. He confessed to setting himself on fire. This is their family issue.” However, by Wednesday evening, Jimmy succumbed to burns.

Kherwadi police filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are probing the matter. “As of now, we have not found any foul play,” said a Kherwadi police official. He said Jimmy used to stay with two brothers and a sister-in-law. Jimmy’s brother Jalex works with a well-known BPO, while his wife lives in Canada and Jimmy’s other brother, Anthony, works for a private firm in Mumbai.
