Last week, an 18-year-old maid of a businessman committed suicide in Malad. The businessman was arrested for abetting suicide of a 34-year-old woman in 2013.

According to Mid-Day, the deceased has been identified as Kusum Kanojia. The police have registered an ADR and have found no foul play. Kusum Kanojia was working as a maid in Harish Shekhawat’s (37) house. Kanojia was working at Shekhawat’s house for the past couple of years. The incident happened on Wednesday last week. On the day of the incident, Shekhawat’s wife and daughter were present in the house on the 10th floor in Kalpataru Pinnacle Tower, Malad.

The incident came to light when the Shekhawat’s 11-year-old daughter went to the kitchen to get some water. She saw Kanojia hanging from the ceiling fan and immediately informed her parents. Later, the Malad police were informed and they sent Kanojia’s body for autopsy. During investigation, it was revealed that Shekhawat was earlier arrested in abetment of a suicide case. Even during the inquiry, it was revealed that Kanojia had met the Shekhawats through their former maid.

Shekhawat told the leading daily that, “I was not present in the house. Kanojia was working for us for the past two years. We treated her like our daughter. The reason behind the suicide is not yet known. We informed her parents and helped them come to Mumbai from UP.”
