After positive cases continued to witness an upward trend by recording triple digits for more than two months, the number of fresh detections witnessed a significant dip as only 66 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing a much-needed respite for citizens as well as health officials in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

Saturday's fresh detections of 66 cases marked one of days with a significant number of low cases in double digits since March 18, when 81 cases were reported.

Although the latest additions have catapulted the total number of cumulative positive patients to 48,823, the MBMC’s health department data also shows that a total of 46,546 patients have recovered from their viral infection and have been discharged from various healthcare facilities in the twin-city.

“Although cases are going down, our entire civic machinery is always on standby mode to counter any eventualities and citizens should also keep their guard up by continuing to wear masks, washing hands frequently, practice social distancing and avoid going out unless absolutely needed,” said municipal commissioner Dilip Dhole.

While the recovery rate has improved further to 95.34 per cent, the active number of cases has now fallen below 1,100 as the active number of cases now stands at 1,008. With three more casualties, the death count has now reached 1,269 which pegs the overall case fatality rate at 2.60 percent.
