Mumbai : The Malwani police on Sunday arrested a 48-year-old man, Younus Khan for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in his neighbourhood on Saturday when she was alone at her home in Gate number eight, Malwani.
According to a police officer from the Malwani police station, the incident came to light when the eight-year-old girl told her mother about the injuries to her private parts and that she was in pain. When the mother quizzed her further, she narrated her ordeal. The victim is known to Khan and her parents were away when he barged into her house, and finding her alone, sexually assaulted her. He threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone, because of which she kept quiet for a long time. Ironically, Khan, a labourer, himself has four daughters.
The victim’s mother then told her husband and the neighbours, who beat up Khan. The police was called on the spot when a ruckus developed and Khan was taken into custody in the wee hours of the morning, while the girl was sent for a medical test to the Dongri shelter home. Khan has been charged under Section 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
