Mumbai: In response to growing concerns over public indecency and rising drug-related activities at Mahim Beach, DCP Zone 5 Ganesh Gawade and Mahim Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Patil convened a special meeting with local residents on Saturday to address the pressing issues.

During the interaction, residents voiced growing frustration over the deteriorating condition of the beach, citing repeated instances of couples engaging in inappropriate conduct and the frequent presence of drug users, particularly during evening and nighttime hours. They expressed concerns over public safety and the erosion of the area's civic environment.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, DCP Gawade outlined a series of immediate interventions aimed at restoring order and enhancing public safety. As part of the proposed action plan, two new entry gates will be installed — one at Siyaposhwadi and another near Paach Peer Dargah — to better regulate access.

Furthermore, beach access will now be officially closed to the public by 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM each day, a move long demanded by local residents to curb nighttime nuisance and criminal behavior.

In a significant move to involve the community in maintaining law and order, DCP Gawade encouraged residents to remain vigilant and use technology as a tool for enforcement. “If anyone witnesses illegal or suspicious activity, they should record it using a GPS-enabled mobile camera. Photographs with embedded location data (latitude, longitude, etc.) can serve as valuable and admissible evidence in legal proceedings,” he stated.

The meeting marked a proactive step by the Mumbai Police to rebuild trust with the community and establish joint accountability in keeping Mahim Beach safe and family-friendly.
