In a shocking incident in broad daylight, a man from Badlapur sustained bullet injuries after being shot by a group of assailants, allegedly over an old rivalry. The incident occurred on Thursday around 3 PM near MLA Kishan Kathore's bungalows on Boradpada Road.

The injured man has been identified as Altaf Shaikh, who runs a chicken shop in Badlapur. He was riding a motorcycle with a friend, heading towards Boradpada for some work, when four men on two motorcycles intercepted them. A scuffle broke out, escalating into manhandling, during which one of the attackers pulled out a revolver and fired two rounds—one of which struck Shaikh in the back.

Hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the scene, prompting the assailants to flee. The Badlapur West police were informed, and Shaikh was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for critical injuries.

Police teams, including crime branch officials, immediately began an investigation. CCTV footage from the area was reviewed, leading to the detention of one suspect.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shailesh Kale confirmed that four teams, including the detection and crime branches, were formed to hunt down the remaining three accused. “Preliminary investigation suggests the motive behind the attack is an old rivalry. We also discovered that the three suspects have prior criminal records, and two cases are already registered against the victim as well,” Kale said.

One team is working on technical intelligence and CCTV analysis, while another is using local informants to trace the suspects’ locations.

Police sources clarified that although the incident occurred near MLA Krishan Kathore’s bungalows, there is no connection between the crime and the legislator.
