Mumbai: NCP president Sharad Pawar on Thursday said his nephew and rebel NCP faction leader Ajit Pawar will never become the chief minister of Maharashtra.

“Ajit Pawar as Maharashtra CM is a dream. It won't be a reality,” Sharad Pawar said while speaking to the media at Akola on Thursday.

Speculations regarding Ajit Pawar becoming Chief Minister of Maharashtra have been in the air ever since he joined the Shinde-BJP government three months back. NCP MP Supriya Sule too fanned the speculations stating that she would be the first to garland him if he becomes the chief minister while DCM Devendra Fadnavis had stated that the BJP shall make him the CM for five full years when the time comes. On this backdrop, when Pawar was asked about it, he stated that there was no such possibility.

“First it will have to be seen if people accept him during the elections,” Pawar added.

Pawar comments on statements made by Bhujbal

Commenting on various statements made by his former colleague Chhagan Bhujbal and clarifications given by his daughter Supriya Sule on it about his resignation earlier this year and proposals to go with the BJP, Pawar said, “It was Bhujbal who had moved the proposal to make Supriya president of the party. But, the later part of the proposal, to join hands with the BJP, was not acceptable to us,” Pawar Sr said.

Earlier, responding to questions about claims by Chhagan Bhujbal that it had been decided in the party that he would resign, Sule said that Sharad Pawar's shock announcement in May to step down as the chief of the NCP was the fallout of the insistence by some leaders of the outfit to go with the BJP.

While speaking about MVA, Pawar said that a few more parties like the PWP and the left parties are likely to join the alliance soon. He also refuted Prakash Ambedkar's criticism over his relations with industrialist Adani, stating that even if he is seen with some people, that doesn't alter his political stand.

Pawar also stated that the BJP is unlikely to come to power at the Centre.
