The police had laid a trap for the accused, asking the girl to meet them in a secluded spot. But the culprits kidnapped the girl before the cops could get to them
Aurangabad : In a major embarrassment for the Jalna police, a 17-year-old girl, who was raped by two youths at night in Jalna on July 6, was raped yet again by the same duo on Thursday night. The police, though, managed to save some face by nabbing the culprits late at night.
One senior cop has been held responsible for the failure of the police trap and was suspended by the special inspector general of Aurangabad (range), Vishwas Nangre Patil, on Friday.
According to details, Smita (name changed) was kidnapped and raped by two youths in their mid-20s on Monday night. They had captured the nasty act on her mobile camera. A case in this connection was registered two days later following the district superintendent of police (DSP), Jyoti Priya Singh, issuing directives to the police station chief concerned.
The gang rape had created ripples in Jalna as the police first delayed registering the case and then failed to trace the accused and arrest them.
They were making mobile calls to Smita’s mother and demanding money. The woman approached the Talika Jalna police station and apprised the police of the phone calls and the demand of money made by the rapists. The head of the special action force, API Vinod Ijapwar, laid a trap and accordingly asked Smita to make a call to them and invite them to a secluded spot on Thursday night.
But the casual approach of the police and the trap laid in arbitration provided an opportunity for the rapists to kidnap the girl and rape her a second time in the last four days.
As per the plan, the police were waiting for the girl to reach the place assigned for the meeting and were planning to pounce on them once they entered the picture.
But, the rapists kidnapped Smita when she was on her way to the meeting place on her scooty and disappeared in a roadside farm under the cover of darkness. The police kept waiting for Smita for hours on end. Meanwhile, the rapists dropped the girl off to the spot from where she was kidnapped and vanished into thin air.
