Mumbai: Don’t forget to carry your jacket to work on Monday since the weather forecast for the next 48 hours has minimum city temperatures dipping to 12 degrees until Tuesday night.

Although the coldest day of the season was December 15 when mercury fell to 10 degrees, evening temperatures are going to be lower than last week.

The city recorded its lowest January temperatures in the year 2012 at 10 degrees, after which night temperatures remained between 10 to 13 degrees in the subsequent years. The year 2007 saw the highest night temperature on January 17, at 15.0 degrees. This season, temperatures have remained somewhat similar, with minimum temperatures hovering between 10 to 13 degrees and maximum between 29 to 33 degrees.

On Saturday, the city clocked similar figures at 32.5 and 14.2 respectively. The forecast for the next 24 hours (until Sunday night) has pegged the day to be warmer at 33 degrees and the night to be colder at 13 degrees. However, weekdays might be chilly with minimum temperatures falling upto 12 degrees until Tuesday. On the other hand, the rest of the weekdays are predicted to be colder between 32 and 30 degrees, declining gradually while night temperatures will remain somewhat constant. There is no possibility of rainfall, though.

“The northerly winds are responsible for this change in weather. But this can’t be called a cold wave. There is nothing unusual about it,” informed V K Rajeev, regional director, Indian Meteorological Department.
