Cops moot micro-level security and safety planning for festive season
Bhayandar : In a bid to ensure safe, peaceful and trouble-free celebrations during ten-day Ganeshotsav, Thane (rural) police had organised a joint meet at Mira Road on Wednesday evening.
Apart from drawing an elaborate road map involving micro-level planning for safety and security, plain clothes policemen will mingle in the crowd to keep an eye out miscreants trying to cash in on the opportunity to eve tease or molest women. The meet of representatives from local Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandals and officials from municipal and police departments was featured by complaints and suggestions from the representatives of mandals and general public. They spoke about traffic problems, potholes as well as emergence of disturbing trend of gambling, alcoholism and even playing of vulgar songs during the festivities.
Mayor Catlyn Pereira and Additional Municipal Commissioner Bharat Shitole assured that all the potholes on streets would be filled before the immersion procession.
Replying to the queries, Thane SP Rajesh Pradhan assured of looking into the issues and appealed for round-the-clock vigil by volunteers. He also asked concerned to take measures like separate darshan queues for men and women, ample lighting in and around a periphery of 20 to 30 meter radius of the pandal premises and display of informative banners highlighting the important do’s and don’ts to be observed during the festive season starting off from August 29.
“There are an estimated 610 Ganeshotsav mandals in the twin-city besides 14,754 public and household Ganesh idols installations. We have made ample arrangements to ensure that every two mandals have at least one dedicated police personnel,” said SDPO Subash Bawche.
