Mumbai : Bhoiwada Police on Monday arrested two persons posing as the officials of the Crime Investigation Department. Both the accused, with their impressive personalities, used to cheat senior citizens arriving at State Transport bus depots between 3 am to 7 pm.

Gold ornaments weighing 154 gm were recovered from the residences of these fake cops who have seven cases registered against them in Bhoiwada police station alone.

According to police information, the accused used to pose as cops and advise senior citizens to remove their jewelry and keep it in their bag by reporting a fake crime incident. On the pretext of checking their bags, they used to replace the bundle of jewelry with a bag of stones.

Bhoiwada police stumbled upon their first clue in such cases while investigating a robbery case.

Cops, while checking CCTV footage from Parker Smruti building where the incident had happened, zeroed in on two persons.

After developing their sketches, a search team was formed to nab them.

After months of search police got a tip off about two Bhiwandi men.

The suspected were arrested and were produced in the court which sent them to police custody remand till August 6.
