Mumbai: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Nagpur Unit of Mumbai Zonal unit intercepted two persons who were engaged in dealing and trading of Leopard skins, and recovered two skins with heads along with one ivory (wild boar horn) from their possession, in an operation in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

About The Operation

DRI acted on the basis of a specific intelligence that a few traders were attempting to sell the wildlife articles, and the team nabbed them in a hotel in Ujjain city on the morning of 4th May 2025.

Both the Leopard skins and ivory were seized under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Leopards are listed in Schedule I of the Act; accordingly, trade, sale, purchase, or possession of leopard skin or any part of the animal is prohibited.

Seized wildlife articles and both the offenders were handed over to the District Forest Division, Ujjain, for further investigation under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

In January this year, DRI Nagpur had seized one leopard skin in Maharashtra’s Akola district and intercepted three individuals in connection with the case. The successful operations conducted by the DRI reaffirm its enduring commitment to safeguarding India’s wildlife by targeting illegal trade and trafficking of endangered species within the country and across borders.

By leveraging its intelligence-driven approach and enforcement expertise, the DRI continues to disrupt trafficking networks and proactively enforce the Wildlife Protection Act in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies.
