Mumbai : The state would act tough against the officials responsible for delay in disbursing the scholarships for professional course students from the weaker sections of the society, Education Minister Vinod Tawde told the assembly during question hour on Monday.
The cases where the funds were available but the scholarships had not been disbursed would be identified and action would be taken against the officials responsible for such delays, the minister said.
He said the process of taking action against the guilty would be completed by the end of next month.
Over the question raised by Sudhakar Deshmukh, Bharti Lavekar and others, the education minister informed the house that the process for disbursing the scholarships and educational fees for SC, ST, VJNT and OBC students in government medical colleges and hospitals has now been taken to online platform and the students who have not submitted proper documents or where the colleges have not sent their applications to the social welfare department have not got the scholarships.
The minister also said that the fees have not been disbursed since the year 2011-12. A provision of Rs 30.50 crore has been made in the supplementary demands to disburse arrears of last three years for economically backward class students. In order to prevent delays in disbursal of scholarship and education fees, a regulatory body needs to be in place and government would soon introduce a bill in this regard, he added.
