It has placed additional 40 thick iron plates on beaches as it is difficult for devotees to walk or run hand carts carrying idols on the sand on Girgaon Chowpatty
Mumbai : The BMC has made additional arrangements to facilitate smooth and accident-free immersion of thousands of Ganesh idols across Mumbai.
It has made maximum security arrangements at Girgaum Chowpaty, as this is the spot where the most prominent mandals of the city immerse their idols. Around 1,450 grade IV employees will be on duty at Girgaum Chowpaty on Sunday.
Among other preparations, the civic body has placed an additional 40 thick iron plates on beaches as it is difficult to walk or run hand carts carrying idols on the sand. Until last year it would set up only 168 iron plates. It has also provided planks that can carry small idols into the sea.
The BMC has provided several small hand carts at the beaches so that devotees will not have to enter the water, as there are threats of fish bites. There are 6 life guards and 6 motor boats stationed in waters close to the shore, in case of an accident.
Several Nirmalya Kalash have been placed on Girgaum Chowpaty along with 7 compactors, 11 mini compactors and 24 dumpers to drain out overflowing bins. Also 24 refuge bins have been placed on the beach.
In collaboration with BEST, the civic body has placed 283 flood lights and 4 flash lights along the chowpatty. It has also set up mobile toilets along chowpatty.
Devotees are requested to be informed of high tide timings, to prevent any accidents.
