Mumbai : Unhappy with the functioning of the electricity wing of BEST undertaking, BEST committee members on Tuesday warned the management for improving the functioning of the department or lose their consumers to competitors. They highlighted several problems marring the electricity wing varying from poor redressal of complaints by consumers to disrupted supply of power.
Corporator from Samajwadi Party Yakoob Memon threatened to initiate an agitation if the problem of disrupted power supply in areas of Null Bazar and `Bhendi Bazar is not resolved in the next 15 days. Yakoob Memon said, “The electric supply to these areas has been disconnected for over four hours in the early morning hours causing problems to the residents. While the BEST admits that the problem is due to overloading of power they have not done anything to resolve the issue.”
“The problem has been going on for over the past nine months and it is not resolved in the next 15 days we will hold an agitation the 16th day,” added Memon.
Another committee member, Ravi Raja, has put forth the lax attitude of BEST employees over redressal of complaints of power consumers. He stated that in the four wards which include G-north, G- south,
F-north and F-south a total of 60,000 complaints are pending over the past months.
Ravi Raja said, “Though Reliance provides power to its consumers at a higher rate but the facility it provides is 10 times better than BEST. In the audit department alone 600 complaints are pending.” The committee members expressed their fears of the consumers migrating to other power distributors if BEST did not improve on its methods.
