Badlapur: Two girls lost their lives while eight others sustained injuries when their car rammed into a tree in Badlapur on Wednesday. According to police, a group of 10 students was returning from Barve dam after celebrating the birthday of a student. The mishap happened when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The deceased are Rutika Kadam, 18, and Nupam Tayde, 19. Rutika resided in Kalyan and Nupam in Ulhasnagar. The injured students—Pratik Sable, Nikhil Velekar, Akshada, Nikhil Sanap, Kamlesh Rajput, Ganesh Singh and Sanket Wadekar— said they had bunked college to celebrate Akshata’s birthday.
The students left college at 7 am on Wednesday, without informing parents in Sanap’s car. One was at the wheel at the time of the accident, police said. An accidental death report was registered by Badlapur East Police and investigations are on. Police said all the 10 were studying at SST college, Ulhasnagar and resided in Ulhasnagar, Kalyan and Ambarnath. Sable and Velekar, who suffered multiple injuries, were sent to JJ hospital in Mumbai; Akshada is being treated at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj hospital in Kalwa. Rajput, Singh and Wadekar were discharged. Sanap was admitted to Badlapur Hospital.
