Ujjain: The police arrested seven people and claimed to have busted an inter-state gang who robbed gullible victims of their jewellery and utensils on the pretext of cleaning them. All the seven accused hail from Madhepura and Katihar districts in Bihar. The success came through a joint operation of Khachrod, Barnagar and Mehdipur police. The arrested people were identified as Mohammed Salman (23), Mohammed Saddam (25), Firoz (20), Mohammed Akhtar (20), Chunna (18), Chhotu Mandal (27) and Rajeev Yadav (23).
The joint team was tipped off about the gang. During subsequent interrogation, the gang members allegedly accepted to several thefts. The police said that the accused always targeted village areas. The police registered an FIR against the accused under Section 420 and 34 of the IPC. The police also recovered jewelleries worth Rs 3,75,000 from them. The police also recorded statements of victims Hina Mulchandani of Barnagar whose bangles were stolen, Tejkunwarbai of Panwasa village under Khacharod police station and Savita Jain of Mehidpur. The police are also trying to find their other links and contacts.
