Ujjain: Thousands of pilgrims arrived in the city from different parts of the country on Mahashivratri to get a glimpse of Lord Shiva at Mahakaleshwar temple on Monday. However, VIP movement left them disgruntled. Mismanagement broke out as state home minister Bala Bachchan, three judges and an ex-minister from Andhra Pradesh reached the temple in early hours of morning to attend ‘bhasmaarti’.

The devotees claimed that police forcibly stopped them from entering the temple during the bhasmaarti due to VIP movement. Traffic arrangements were paralaysed at several places. Private transport operators charged hefty amount from pilgrims. Complaints of pick pocketing, mobile phone thefts, vehicle lifting were also received.
