Ujjain: Kuchipudi dancer T Reddi Lakshmi taught various postures of the traditional Indian classical form of dance to the students of two government schools during a week-long lecture demonstration programme being organised by the SPIC MACAY in association with IOC. Lakshmi on the 4th day on Thursday presented a number from the mythology which shows how Lord Krishna saved his devotee Gajendra- the elephant from the clutches of crocodile. This is a composition of Maharaja Swati Thirunal and easily understood by the kids.
She also performed Aadi Shankaracharya composition which depicts the half man-half woman image – Ardhanari. The lyrics explain about the tandav and lasya aspects of Shiva and Parvati. She performed Nritta based Swara Pallavi where she also danced in the edges of the brass plate. This is set to Raag Vasanta and Aadi Talam. She thought kids the Devata Mudra’s and footwork of Kuchipudi. This was performed in Government Higher Secondary School Fazalpura and Government Middle School Pandariba, respectively. It was very well received and appreciated by the schools and children.
On this occasion SPIC MACAY convener Pankaj Agrawal said, Kuchipudi started as a Bhakti movement where the Brahmin families praise and spread awareness about Krishna Bhakti around villages. School principals Sushma Sharma and Rajendra Paliwal welcomed the artist. Faculty Aslam Patel and student Geetika gave vote of thanks. On Friday, Lakshmi will perform at 10.30 am in Government Middle school village Datana and at 12.30 pm in Government Middle School village Chandesara.
