Bhayandar: Senior NCP leader Jitendra Awhad took aSharad Pawar jibe at the BJP’s favourite slogan of ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’, saying the party was instead aiming at a “Congress yukt BJP” by poaching and giving tickets to more than a dozen leaders who were formerly Congress members.
Awhad was addressing the media at a joint press conference by the local Congress and the NCP units in Mira Road to announce the candidature of Anand Paranjpe (NCP) for the Thane parliamentary constituency. Awhad said there was no question of allying with the BJP, as our leader Sharad Pawar himself is the driving force in uniting the Opposition ahead of the 2019 general election.
“They have a habit of raising questions about the progress of our country under the Congress regime, but the BJP has no answers why people voted it to power all these years. The contributions of the Congress can never be ignored,” said ex-Congress legislator Muzaffar Hussain.
have represented this constituency earlier and am aware of the plaguing issues,” said Paranjpe. Pitted against a formidable saffron alliance candidate, Paranjpe is dependent on the Congress to sail through from the Mira Bhayandar assembly segment.
In return, the state NCP leadership has promised to part with the Mira-Bhayandar Assembly seat in favour of the Congress. “Yes, as per the decision by higher-ups of both the parties, the Mira Bhayandar Assembly segment will be represented by a Congress candidate and the NCP will strive hard to ensure the victory,” said NCP leader Ganesh Naik.
