Bhayandar: The Kashimira police have registered an offence against the owner of a local outdoor advertising agency for breaching the model election code of conduct by installing a billboard displaying the BJP symbol along with the photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to police, the action followed when an on-duty vigilance team attached to the Election Commission (EC), led by nodal officer Narendra Chavhan, registered a complaint against the accused advertiser, identified as Mansoor Memon, on Wednesday night. However, no arrests have been made so far in the case.
An alert citizen had informed the EC of the flex banner titled, “Mai Bhi Chowkidar”, which was mounted on a metal hoarding near the Dodhia Petrol Pump on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway in Kashimira. The banner was removed and an FIR was registered under section 127(A) of the Representation of the People Act and section 171(h) of the Indian Penal Code.
The district authorities have already issued an advisory to local advertisers and printers to adhere to the poll code by not printing or publishing any campaign material without prior approval. It is mandated to indicate names and addresses of printer and publisher of any election related campaign material.
