The much awaited monsoon is finally here. And so are the umbrellas. But have we ever given a thought towards the noble deed that an umbrella does to us? So often we must have used the phrase ‘under one umbrella’ meaning united under one roof or shelter. It’s a symbol of unification and a sense of feeling protected.
It protects us from heat as well as rains, just as our parents protect us from any harm caused by others. When a person has an umbrella and sees his or her friend not carrying one when it is pouring heavily, the person brings his friend under the its protection. Just as a joint family does – stays under one roof and helps one another.
Many a time we come across a problem of an umbrella not opening properly or getting stuck in between. It gets jammed due to frequent closing or opening or not using it for a longer time. Just the way in any family there are differences of opinion and small fights whereby one member does not talk to the other for few days or weeks and children leave their parents and move out of the family for greener pastures. It jams up the relationships for a while, just as in the case of an umbrella.
As we oil the umbrella to get it back into action, we need to oil our relationships too with love and affection. Differences and misunderstandings can be sorted out by talking and distances can be reduced by sharing some quality time with our near and dear ones.
Many a time our umbrella gets stolen or we tend to forget it somewhere, just as we lose our peace of mind and we feel lost rest for the rest of the day. But when we return under the protective roof with friends and family members around us, we are back to normal.
I’m sure, next time you hold an umbrella; you shall see it with a different perspective. It has protected us from sun and rain, but is has also taught us so much. So folks, what are you waiting for? Enjoy the monsoon (life), but keep an umbrella (family) handy!
