Ujjain: The city witnessed unexpected rain showers on Friday evening. The sky remained partially cloudy all day which turned into pre-monsoon rain late evening. A one hour long rain lashed the city and nearby areas providing respite to city dwellers from the humid and scorching heat.
‘Nautapa’s stinging heat was reduced considerably when it began raining with speedy winds and thundering clouds. The rain drenched the roads of the city leaving some trees uprooted and bringing down hoardings. High velocity winds disturbed power supply also in different areas of the city for almost an hour.
According to the Government Jiwajirao observatory weatherman, rain and weather disturbances are likely ahead of monsoon. Small spells of rain with squalls unearthed the power distribution company’s sources of the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board, as city dwellers faced a one hour long darkness in various parts of the city.
Tents erected for different events, as well hoardings reportedly fell flat at many areas. Vegetables and grains which were purchased at government support prices also reportedly got wet in the mandis. Day time temperature also fell to 41 degrees Celsius.
