Mumbai, Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-government over its inaction after the Uri terror attack that claimed lives of 18 security personnel.

Addressing the media, Thackeray reminded Modi of his statements and promises regarding Pakistan in his campaigning speeches. “Now the time has come to fulfil these promises which he made to the people of India during Lok Sabha elections,” said Thackeray. BJP and Shiv Sena are in alliance in the State as well as at the Centre.

Thackeray added that India should give an “answer” to Pakistan in their own language and felt that talks will not yield results. “When are we going to give answer to Pakistan in their own language? When such attack happens we condemn it for few days and then forget about them,” he said. When asked what actions does his party want the government to take he responded, “If war (with Pakistan) has to take place, it should happen for country and not for elections.”

He took a jibe at Modi when asked if he has spoken to the Prime Minister after the terror attack. “He is talking to Pakistan; we will talk when he’s free.” He further attacked the central government and said that it is following the steps of the UPA government on Pakistan. “How can you say that there is a change in the country when you are doing what the previous government did?” he said. He added that this is not the first time Pakistan has “stabbed” India since Modi came to power. “In January they stabbed us with the Pathankot attack. After that too there was no action. There is no use of merely harbouring feelings of anger against Pakistan,” Thackeray said. Meanwhile, in an editorial of the party’s mouthpiece Saamna, Shiv Sena urged Indian government to stop cornering Pakistan in the United Nations and “teach them a lesson”.
