Washington D.C.: The Pentagon has claimed that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) “military emir of Anbar” Abu Wahib was neutralised in a “successful” coalition airstrike. According to CNN the attack took place on May 6 near Rutbah in Western Iraq.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said Wahib, was travelling with three others in a vehicle at the time of the strike

“ISIL leadership has been hit hard by coalition efforts and this is another example of that. It is dangerous to be an ISIL leader in Iraq and Syria these days and for good reason.” Cook said. There have been unconfirmed reports in the past suggesting Wahib was targeted by strikes, but this is the first time the Pentagon has said he was killed.
