Mumbai : Fancied Pooja Dewlekar and Cherish D’Souza were the architect in Thakur College’s 2-1 win over Kamladevi Jain to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the girls under-19 event of the Mumbai Suburban (All Taluka) under-19 badminton Table Tennis Tournament, organised by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sport Management at Goregon Sports Club on Thursday.

While Pooja virtually blanked her opponent Maitri Shetty in the opening singles, Vidhi Patel put up meeky display against Kirti Gajjar and lost 10-21. However, the Thakur pair of Pooja and Cherish D’Souza hardly faced any worthwhile opposition from Kirti and Sapna Iyer and won 1t 21-16 to clinch the tie.

Deep Rambhia battled single-handedly to take K.J. Somaiya past Narsee Monjee 2-1 in the boys under-19 section. After both were tied at 1-1, as he won his singles easily and then saw his weak teammate losing the second singles,  he told his novice partner to stand near the net as he covered the the whole court to clinch the all-important double tie . In some other matches, Esplande  Jr Coll bt Atomic Energy jr coll 2-1; and MMK (Bandra) bt Yashodhan 2-0.
