Mumbai: A former assistant police inspector, convicted in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam involving Abdul Karim Telgi, today moved the Bombay High Court seeking permission to go to Canada to attend his son’s convocation.
K K Parmar, who was sentenced to 5 years in jail and is out on bail, sought permission to go to Canada from June 5 tobattend the convocation, saying he had obtained a six-month nvisa.
Judge Ajay Gadkari asked him to file a schedule or programme of the convocation and posted the hearing on May 27.
Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat opposed the plea ofb Parmar, saying he had been convicted and should not be allowed to go abroad.
Parmar was convicted in 2007 and sentenced to undergo five years jail for allegedly aiding and abetting Telgi in the scam.
Parmar had filed an appeal against his conviction and is currently on bail.
