Mahesh Bhupathi inaugurates TT Championship

Mumbai : Ryan International School, Sanpada and DAV Public School, Airoli comfortably won their respective senior boys second round team championship matches in the 11Even Sports Inter-School Table Tennis State Championships, Maharashtra, 2016, organized in celebration of ‘National Sports Day’, which is the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand.

The event is being sponsored by Robomate+, a curriculum based study app, and is powered by Square Off Sports, a premier sports management, consulting and a training organization. The Sanpada schoolboys tamed Poddar International School (CBSE), Powai 3-1 while DAV Public School blanked Poddar International School (CIE) by a 3-0 margin, at the Khar Gymkhana table tennis hall on Monday.

The three-day tournament, jointly organised by 11Even Sports Pvt. Ltd. and MSTTA, under the auspices of the TTFI, was inaugurated by tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi, in the presence of Vita Dani, Chairperson, 11Even Sports, Kamlesh and Monalisa Mehta, and other dignitaries. “This is a great boost for school children. I would like to congratulate the organizers for conducting such a tournament as it would help the sport grow. It would also help the children to follow their dream and maybe go on to represent the country at the Olympics,” he said. The Inter-School Table Tennis State Championships, which is India’s largest Inter-Schools sporting event, is being simultaneously conducted across 27 States commencing on August 29.

Results – Team championship – Senior Boys: Maharashtra Mandal English Medium School beat Lokhandwala Foundation 3-0. Smt. Singhania School beat Ryan International School, Malad 3-0. Rustomjee International School beat Smt. K.C. Gandhi School 3-0. Ryan International School, Sanpada beat Poddar International School (CBSE), Powai 3-1. Utpal Sanghvi School beat Navy Children School 3-0. DAV Public School, Airoli beat Poddar International School (CIE), Powai 3-0.
