More trouble for Rahul Raj as court rejects his pre-bail plea
Mumbai : The anticipatory bail of Rahul Raj Singh, who has been booked for abetment to suicide, was rejected by the Dindoshi Sessions Court, paving the way for his arrest in the next couple of days. He has been booked in connection with the suicide of TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee who was found hanging in her house in Goregaon last week.
The matter came up for hearing in the court on Thursday morning, and Rahul’s lawyer argued for anticipatory bail by pointing out several loopholes in the case. He said that even though the death had taken place on April 1, the FIR was registered after delay of about four days. Further, the lawyer claimed that prior to the suicide, there was no quarrel between the couple and also no suicide note has been found at the time of death. The lawyer argued that the police have applied the section of abetment to suicide in this matter, but the fact is that there Is nothing to show this. “Even when Rahul found Pratyusha hanging from the ceiling fan, his first reaction was to take her to the hospital and he even stayed there all night,” he pointed out.
Cong angle in case
NEW DELHI: A Congress angle has emerged in Pratyusha Banerjee”s suicide in Mumbai on April 1. Her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh is son of former All India Mahila Congress president Prabha Thakur. The 66-year old Thakur, well-known as a Hindi poet, was a Congress MP from Ajmer in Rajasthan and later a Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha. She not only campaigned against violence and excesses on women but decried attempts to force a dress code on girls, saying what to wear is the concern of the girl, her parents and family.
