The transport department has solved a major loophole regarding suspension of licences by traffic policemen. Earlier, license of offenders could be only suspended with original copy of licence. This helped offenders to get away from suspension after breaking traffic rules by showing just a photocopy of their licence. But now, a new order has been passed by transport commission through which the licence of offenders can be suspended through photocopies or scanned copies of licences.

This move, however, still has a problem as drivers will have their original document and traffic official will only come to know about the suspension details after checking offender’s online records. Therefore, the offenders can still misuse it. Now, if the driver’s licence is suspended using a photocopy and the driver is caught second time with the original license, his licence will be sent for revocation.

The move is intended to reduce accidents on national highways. A driver’s licence can be suspended for three months for breaking rules such as speeding, jumping signals, talking on mobile phones, drink driving and violating helmet, seatbelt laws, among other offences,. According to police, these are some of the crucial reasons behind accidents on highways.
