Mumbai: Fare of AC locals to be increased by Western Railways, read details

Commuters travelling on AC locals on the Western Line will have to shell out more cash for their journey as the Railways has decided to hike fares from June 1. Currently, the fare of 12 AC local services plying on Western Railway from Monday to Friday is 1.2 times the first-class fare of local train services.

The current price is for a single way ticket on Churchgate-Virat route is Rs. 205. It is expected that it may be increased to Rs. 220. The price of weekly pass on the route at present is Rs.1070, Rs. 1555 for fortnightly pass and Rs. 2040 for Monthly pass.

As per new fare-revision by Ministry of Railways, a single ticket journey on Churchgate -Virat route will cost up to Rs. 5 to Rs. 20 more from June 1. Weekly passes will have hike of Rs. 25 to Rs. 80, while the monthly pass holders will have to pay Rs. 50 to Rs. 165 more. No difference of fare will collected on season tickets of AC locals already issued but commuters looking to upgrade their first call single journey tickets/season tickets into AC local single journey tickets/season tickets will have to pay the difference amount as per the revised rates.

Mumbai AC local train services was started on December 25, 2017 and has been very popular among commuters. About 58 lakh commuters have travelled on the AC local till dates, according to Western Railways. Since its start, the services have earned about Rs. 24 crore up to April 30, 2019.  The services earned about Rs. 1.84 crore in April 2019.
